COTTAGE UNDER THE FIG TREE
The wine press building (ital. Palmento), renovated to a high standard in traditional style, is situated in the midst of a beautiful cultural landscape in a quiet location. The house is suitable for people who appreciate the respectful treatment of nature and its resources. The accommodation is low in electromagnetic radiation. There are no electrical connections. Mobile phone reception is very weak outside the house. The house has hot and cold running water. The refrigerator and cooker are gas-powered. Gas lamps and candles provide warm lighting in the evening.
Only high-quality, natural materials have been used in the restoration of the former wine press building. The furnishings of the retreat are a perfectly coordinated combination of design and tradition. With the exception of the bathroom, all rooms are open and interconnected. The bathroom and kitchen with table and seating are located in the lower part. A few steps lead to the living area, which is equipped with a fireplace and cosy seat cushions. Through the window you can enjoy the view of Mount Etna. A few more steps lead to the sleeping area. High-quality mattresses and a mosquito net ensure an undisturbed and good night's sleep. A ladder leads to a second sleeping area for two more people.
In the front garden of the house you can enjoy your meals under a large shady fig tree and have an open view of Mount Etna. And with a little luck, you will experience the spectacular fire spectacle of the volcano, which enchants especially in the evening hours. The property of the refuge is completely fenced in. As my guests, however, all my land is at their disposal for walking and exploring. A wide variety of flora and fauna awaits them on their tour of my terrain. Lush vegetation, shady olive trees and oaks invite you to have a picnic. Bird lovers will discover one or the other rare bird species here.
By car, you can reach the holiday home via a dirt road. Parking for cars and campers is available free of charge at the property, but not yet on it. It takes 20 minutes to reach the centre of Linguaglossa on foot. In Linguaglossa you will find all shopping facilities, restaurants and café, as well as a medical emergency service. On Friday mornings, the local weekly market is held in Piazza San Rocco.
